I was at the NFT_NYC Conference in November 2021. The energy around this event and community is incredible. It reminds me very much of SXSW interactive down in Austin, Texas circa pre-2011.

In the short term, the NFT marketplace is a frothy bubble.

In the long term, it will set the foundation for how nation-states will operate.

Having said that, NFTs as they exist now, won’t be the vehicle that causes this revolution to take place at mass scale.

1. The NFT community is heavily male and many of the in-person events were socially awkward and lacking organic female participatio. Without a heavy female population, it will not reach mass adoption.
2. Community is key. The art application of NFTs is subjective. Sports cards aside, it’s hard for me to see NFTs in the form of art as a common currency.
3. Access is key. Core human psychology has to see “what’s behind the curtain.” Humans also crave power. The people providing access “to see what’s behind the curtain” hold the most power.
